Christopher Leinberger The Option of Urbanism: Investing in a New American Dream
09/11/2008 - 09/11/2008
7:30 AM - 9:30 AM
Major demographic shifts… A looming national infrastructure crisis... Rising energy costs and concern about energy security... Dwindling resources for transportation investment… The need for a Georgia state transportation strategy. The remarkable convergence of these issues focuses our attention on the relationship between land use policies and practices and transportation funding and prioritization.

Please join the Livable Communities Coalition, the Urban Land Institute, the Georgia Planning Association and the Congress for the New Urbanism as we welcome Chris Leinberger, nationally renowned metropolitan land use strategist, consultant, developer, teacher and author, who will discuss the ideas presented in his book, The Option of Urbanism - Investing in a New American Dream (Island Press, 2008.) Leinberger's experiences in and observations from metropolitan areas around the country offer meaningful guidance as we wrestle in Metro Atlanta and throughout the state of Georgia with growth, development and transportation.
Following Leinberger's presentation we will hear responses and a conversation from a panel which will include Dick Anderson, Executive Director of the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority (GRTA); Tom Bell, Chairman and CEO of Cousins Properties; and Dr. Beverly Scott, General Manager and CEO of MARTA.
We have applied for 2 CM (certification maintenance) credits with APA, and approval is pending. For further details, email
